UMW Women's Swimmers Capture Gettysburg College Invitational

The University of Mary Washington women's swimming team continued its hot start from Friday's first session with back to back strong efforts in the morning and evening on Saturday to capture the Gettysburg College Invitational on Saturday in Gettysburg, Pa.

The Eagles started the morning swim with a 1-2-3 finish in the 400 individual medley, with senior Anna Corley finishing first at 4:34.32 with an NCAA provisional time. Megan Murphy was second at 4:38.40, and freshman Julia Geskey took third at 4:38.60.

Freshman Carley Vaughn finished second in the 100 yard butterfly at 59.01, and then took first in the 100 backstroke at 58.98, just ahead of classmate Geskey, who finished at 59.00. Geskey, Michaela Miller, Murphy, and Corley finished first in the 800 yard freestyle at 7:52.18.

In the evening swim, the 200 free relay of Kaitlin Luncher, Shannon Coryell, Lauren Wood and Vaughn finished first at 1:38.62. Corley then won the 200 IM at 2:07.60 with Maddy Rymer taking third at 2:13.78, and Coryell won the 50 free with Lauren Wood placing third at 24.81.

The Eagles finished first with 796.5 points, with Susquehanna finishing second at 686, Gettysburg third at 683, Swarthmore fourth at 466.5, followed by Dickinson, Johns Hopkins, and Bryn Mawr.
