UMW's Anna Corley Named CAC Women's Swimmer of the Week

YORK, Pa. -- Mary Washington junior Anna Corley honored as the CAC Women's Swimming Athlete of the Week for Dec. 8, 2015.

Mary Washington junior Anna Corley was honored as the CAC Women's Swimming Athlete of the Week after recording six first-place finishes in leading the Eagles to second place at the Gettysburg Invitational last weekend. Corley grabbed a pair of individual gold medals and was a part of four winning relay squads. All six of her winning times rank first in the CAC and in the top-30 nationally, including the seventh-fastest time in the nation in the 200 IM. On Friday, she was a part of the winning 200 medley relay that earned an NCAA provisional qualifying time of 1:45.79, then won the 200 yard backstroke at 2:06.37, and capped the day by winning the 400 freestyle relay with a winning time of 3:32.36. On Saturday, she was a member of the winning 800 free relay at 7:48.55, and also won the 200 IM with another NCAA provisional time of 2:06.21. She capped the weekend by being a member of the winning 400 medley relay, at 3:55.80.

NOTES AROUND THE CONFERENCE

Five CAC teams competed last weekend, including four at invitationals ... St. Mary's and Marymount competed at the Yellow Jacket Invitational at Randolph-Macon, with St. Mary's taking sixth with 306 points and Marymount placing eighth with 222 points ... St. Mary's senior Cara Machlin claimed her fourth career school record, finishing fourth in the 1,650 freestyle with a time of 17:53.07, breaking the 11-year-old school record of 17:58.33 set by Lillian Hnath in 2004 ... Marymount's Morgan Alston set a school record in the 200 IM at 2:12.32, taking third of 54 swimmers ... In Salisbury's 170-92 loss to Widener, Layne Gable won the 100 butterfly and took second in the 200 butterfly ... York took third of five teams with 558.5 points at the TCNJ Lion Invitational. Freshman Maddy Mann picked up two individual wins and a second-place mark and was a part of four school-record-breaking performances. Mann broke her own school record in the 500 freestyle (5:05.22), set a new school mark in the 200 freestyle (1:53.30) and the 100 freestyle (53.08), and also contributed to the record-breaking relay time of 3:42.62. All three of her individual record times rank atop the CAC this season.
