UMW Women's Soccer Falls to #3 CNU in C2C Semifinal

The University of Mary Washington women's soccer team dropped a 2-0 decision to third ranked and top seeded Christopher Newport on Friday in the semifinal round of the Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference Tournament at the Battleground. The Eagles close the season with a mark of 8-9-1.

The Captains had the better of possession in the early going, culminating in the game's first score at 7:07. The Eagles began to string together some passes, evening the field, but trailed, 1-0, at halftime. The Captains held a 4-3 advantage in shots at intermission.

The second half began in much the same way as the first, as CNU scored an early goal, 4:04 into play, and then UMW's defense stiffened, with the Eagles on the short end of a 2-0 decision at the final horn.

Christopher Newport led in shots, 8-4, as well as corner kicks, 4-2. UMW goalkeepers Sydney Alexander and Morgan Hicok split time in net, each allowing one score in 45 minutes.
