UMW Women's Soccer Races Past Pratt, 4-0, in C2C Tourney 1st Round

The University of Mary Washington women's soccer team used a pair of early scores to build the advantage, and cruised to a 4-0 victory over Pratt Institute in the first round of the Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference Tournament on Thursday afternoon at the Battleground. The Eagles improve to 8-8-1 on the season.

UMW controlled the ball in the early going, and reached the scoreboard at 8:00 on a tally from sophomore Kaitlyn Venzen, who took a loose ball central in the box and scored. Then, at 13:37, senior Riley Boyd added another on a similar play to give the Eagles a 2-0 advantage, which stood to halftime.

In the second half, the Eagles added to the lead, as senior Savannah Alexander netted UMW's third score at 60:35. Less than two minutes later, freshman Parker McCausland added another, on an assist from junior Eva McCrehin.

Mary Washington led in shots, 33-1, as well as corner kicks, 2-0. UMW goalkeepers Sydney Alexander and Morgan Hicok shared the shutout, with neither recording a save.

The Eagles will advance to face top-seeded Christopher Newport University in Friday's semifinal round. Kickoff from the Battleground will be at 11:00 a.m.
