UMW Women's Soccer Draws with Kenyon

The Mary Washington women's soccer team drew with Kenyon College on Saturday afternoon in Fredericksburg, Va., 1-1.

The Eagles got on the board first with an early goal off the of the foot of first year forward Maci Landel in the 9th minute after forcing a barrage of shots at the Owls' keeper in the opening minutes.

UMW took a 1-0 lead in the half after holding Kenyon to just one shot, while taking nine of its own. But an own goal in the 51st minute that was knocked in by Mary Washington forced Saturday's draw.

The Eagles held strong defensively in the second half in which Kenyon only attempted one more shot. The Eagles kept with it on offense in the second half on offense with six shots taken, which accounted for 15 total shots.

Junior keeper Morgan Hicok got the start In goal, her first of the season, in which she saved a shot in the first half.

Mary Washington doubled Kenyon's corners during the match, 4-2.

The Eagles are back in action next Saturday night (Oct. 7) against Christopher Newport at 7 p.m. for their first game under the lights at home. First touch is set for 7:00 p.m.
