UMW Women's Soccer Edged Out by Lynchburg, 2-1

After tying Lynchburg at a goal apiece in the first half, the Mary Washington women's soccer team (4-4) conceded a second goal in the next half to fall to the Hornets, 2-1, in Lynchburg, Va. on Monday night.

First year forward Maci Landel fired the Eagles' lone goal of the day into the back of the net in the 33rd minute, which tied Monday night's game at one. It marked her third goal of the season.

The Eagles tallied 13 total shots -- seven of which were on goal -- and outshot Lynchburg, who recorded 12 shots and four on net. Meanwhile, first year keeper Sydney Alexander recorded two saves for UMW.

Junior midfielder Eliza Franklin led the way with five shots -- four on goal -- while sophomore forward Kaitlyn Venzen was the other Eagle that recorded a multi-shot game (2). Senior forward Reagan Boyer and sophomore midfielder Ellen Shine also shot the ball on net.

Mary Washington tallied seven total corner kicks, while the Hornets recorded just a pair. 

The Eagles had a chance to tie the match with a free kick that was given on a yellow card with three seconds left, but were unable to convert from just outside of the box.

UMW plays again on Wednesday, Sept. 27 at Hood College. First touch is set for 7:00 p.m.
