UMW Women's Soccer Falls at SVU, 2-0

Sometimes, it's just not your night. That was the case for the Mary Washington women's soccer team (2-1) on Wednesday night at Southern Virginia University.

After starting 2-0 this past weekend, the Eagles fell to the Knights, 2-0, despite launching a barrage of shots at SVU's keeper. UMW accounted for 10 total attempts at the net -- half of which were on goal and saved by SVU's keeper.

Sophomore forward Kaitlyn Venzen and junior midfielder Eliza Franklin led the way with a pair of shots each for the Eagles, but neither found the back of the net.

The Knights scored in the 32nd minute with a shot that landed in the lower left corner before tacking on a second goal in the 89th minute. Aside from those two goals, UMW's defense held strong, holding SVU to just five shots.

Sydney Alexander ended her three-period stretch of shutout play from behind the net once SVU scored in the first half.

The Eagles are back in action on Sunday afternoon against NC Wesleyan with a 2 p.m. first touch.
