UMW Women's Soccer Shuts Out Marymount

UMW Women's Soccer Shuts Out Marymount

For the second time in three days, the Mary Washington women's soccer team recorded a clean sheet -- only this time the victim was Marymount on Sunday night.

Thanks to two early goals and a stout defense, UMW didn't have to do much worrying for a second consecutive game. The Eagles netted two goals in a 45 second span during the 11th minute. Thanks to the foot of Eliza Frankin at the 10:05 mark, Mary Washington jumped out to a 1-0 lead. Fourty-four seconds later, Reagan Boyer also found the back of the net in the top left corner.

The Eagles took those two early goals and never looked back. They shot the ball 11 times in the first half and didn't allow Marymount to take a single shot.

In the second half, it was the same story. Mary Washington took 11 shots, while allowing Marymount to shoot the soccer ball just once.

Macey Wissell added Mary Washington's final goal in the 72nd minute with a shot to the top left corner -- capping off one of the more dominating performances in recent memory.

Sydney Alexander posted her second clean sheet of the season, playing all 90 minutes in the Eagles' win.

Mary Washington heads to Southern Virginia on Wednesday night before returning home next weekend on Sept. 10 for a match with N.C. Wesleyan.
