UMW Women's Soccer Blanks Finlandia, 3-0, in C2C 1st Round on Thursday Night
  • The University of Mary Washington women's soccer team defeated Finlandia University, 3-0, on Thursday night in the first round of the Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference Tournament in Newport News, Va. The Eagles improve to 11-4-4, and advance to the C2C Semifinals on Friday against second-seeded UC Santa Cruz.

The Eagles who dominated from the opening whistle, broke ahead with their first goal at 31:16, as senior Macey Wissell scored on assists from Cassidy Shaw and Savannah Alexander. UMW added to the lead late in the second half, as sophomore Jazzy Imanverdi netted her first goal of the season at 81:17. The Eagles added another at 83:37, as sophomore Ella Knight scored on a Carson Lengel assist.

UMW led in shots, 42-0, and in corner kicks, 5-0. UMW goalkeeper Ally Holden turned in a clean sheet without a save in gaining the shutout.

The Eagles will face second seeded UC Santa Cruz on Friday evening in the semifinal round in Newport News at 7:00 p.m.
