The University of Mary Washington women's soccer team defeated Catholic University, 3-0, on Wednesday night in Washington, D.C., to improve to 9-4-4 on the season.
After the game remained scoreless for much of the first half, the visiting Eagles jumped on top in the 42nd minute on a score from junior Savannah Alexander, and led, 1-0, at halftime.
UMW maintained the momentum into the second half, as senior Mikaela O'Fallon scored on an Ellen Shine corner kick in the 54th minute, providing the Eagles with a big insurance score. Senior Amanda Krest added a late score, in the 87th minute, on a Kaitlyn Venzen assist.
Catholic led the game in shots, 12-10, as well as corner kicks, 4-2. UMW senior goalie Ally Holden made six saves in picking up the shutout.
The Eagles will close the regular season on Saturday at home against Bryn Mawr College at 3:00 p.m.
