UMW Women's Soccer Tops Salisbury, 2-1, on Saturday Afternoon

In a fast and furious start in which three goals were scored in the first 6:41 of play, the University of Mary Washington women's soccer team came away with a 2-1 victory at Salisbury University on Saturday afternoon in Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference play. The Eagles improve to 5-7-2 on the season, and 2-1-1 in league play.

The Eagles took the early lead at 2:49 on a Gracie Williams (Charlottesville, Va.) penalty kick. Salisbury would tie the score at 5:50, but the Eagles regained the lead on a score from junior Amanda Krest (Ashburn, Va.) at 6:41, on an Abby Zimmerman (Charlottesville, Va.) assist. After the wild start, both teams settled down defensively, and the game remained at 2-1 to the final whistle.

The Eagles led in shots, 18-7, and both teams had three corner kicks. UMW senior goalkeeper Allison Nork made three saves for the Eagles in gaining the win.

The Eagles will be back in action next weekend at the C2C Tournament in Salisbury. Seeds for the tournament will be announced on Monday morning.
