UMW Women's Soccer Falls in 2OT at Swarthmore, 2-1

The University of Mary Washington women's soccer team dropped a 2-1 decision in double overtime at Swarthmore College on Wednesday evening. The Eagles slip to 4-7-1 on the season.

Swarthmore gained the lead with a score at 23:16, but the Eagles responded to tie the score at 1-1 at 31:05. Senior midfielder Gracie Williams scored from just outside the penalty area, over the putstretched goalkeeper's arms.

The game remained tied at one through the end of the first half and regulation, sending the game to overtime. With 1:48 remaining in the second extra frame, Swarthmore scored the game winner on a penalty kick.

Swarthmore led in shots, 15-6, as well as corner kicks, 6-2. UMW senior goalkeeper Allison Nork (Harrisburg, Pa.) collected eight saves in net for the Eagles.

Mary Washington will host an exhibition on Saturday at 10 a.m. as part of Senior Day, and will next be back in action on Oct. 27 at Christopher Newport University at 7:30 p.m.
