McCrehin's Late First Half Goal Lifts UMW Women's Soccer Past Randolph-Macon, 1-0

Freshman midfielder Eva McCrehin (Warrenton, Va. / Fauquier) scored the game's lone goal with just over two minutes remaining in the first half, and the defense held tight for a 1-0 victory for the University of Mary Washington women's soccer team over Randolph-Macon College on Wednesday at the Battleground. Both teams move to 1-2 on the season.

The Yellow Jackets carried the momentum early, gaining several shots in the opening minutes, but the Eagles settled down, and McCrehin scored at 42:12 on a loose ball in traffic that found its way over the goal line.

In the second half, UMW came out strong in the opening minutes, registering several strong shots, but both teams were stymied, resulting in the one-score win.

The Eagles led in shots, 8-4, as well as corner kicks, 6-3. UMW senior goalkeeper Allison Nork (Harrisburg, Pa. / Bishop McDevitt) made one save to gain the shutout.

Mary Washington will return to action on Saturday when they host top-ranked Messiah University at 1:00 p.m.
