UMW Women's Soccer Falls to #8 CNU at Homecoming, 1-0

The University of Mary Washington women's soccer team dropped a 1-0 decision to eighth-ranked Christopher Newport University on Saturday afternoon before 3,500 fans at Homecoming. The Eagles slip to 6-9 overall and 3-4 in Capital Athletic Conference play.

Both teams created several scoring chances in the early going, but the score stood 0-0 until 34:16, when CNU's Ryanne Davidson connected on a long shot from outside the box for what proved to be the game's only score. CNU held a 10-7 advantage in shots through 45 minutes.

In the second half, both teams continued to knock on the door, with the Eagles putting several quality shots on frame, and the Captains saw one shot hit the crossbar, but neither would find the nets, resulting in the 1-0 final.

The Captains led in shots, 17-14, as well as on corner kicks, 3-1. UMW goalkeeper Allison Nork made four saves for the Eagles, while CNU 'keeper made seven stops for the visitors.

The Eagles will be back in action again on Wednesday afternoon, when they visit Salisbury University at 4 p.m.
