Krest Leads UMW Women's Soccer Past St. Mary's, 3-0, in CAC Opener

Freshman Amanda Krest scored a pair of goals and assisted on another to left the University of Mary Washington women's soccer team to a 3-0 victory over St. Mary's College of MD on Saturday afternoon at the Battleground in a match that was delayed for 45 minutes due to lightning. The Eagles improve to 4-5 overall, and 1-0 in league play.

The Eagles wasted little time after the delayed start, as senior Malorie Joseph finished a cross from Krest just 1:20 into play to open the scoring. The Eagles found several more chances in the first, but the score still stood at 1-0 at halftime.

In the second, Krest scored on a Lindsey Hendrickson assist at 52:53 to add an insurance score, and added another on a feed from sophomore Abby Zimmerman at 82:21.

The Eagles led in shots, 15-3, as well as in corner kicks, 9-0. Freshman Aly Holden and sophomore Allison Nork split time in gaining the shutout, with Nork making one stop.

UMW will return to action on Wednesday when the Eagles host Salisbury University in another CAC showdown at 4 p.m.
