
The University of Mary Washington women's soccer team dropped a 2-1 decision in double overtime at Virginia Wesleyan University on Saturday night. The Eagles slip to 1-4 on the season.
UMW jumped ahead with the game's first score, as sophomore Abby Zimmerman connected for her first tally of the season at 32:57, on an assist from Amanda Krest. The Eagles maintained the lead to intermission.
In the second half, the host Marlins knotted the score at 1-1 in the 72nd minute, sending the game eventually to overtime. In the second overtime period, with just 1:06 remaining, the Marlins found the winning score.
Virginia Wesleyan outshot the Eagles, 21-11, as well as in corner kicks, 9-2. UMW freshman goalkeeper Aly Holden made five saves in nets for the Eagles.
UMW will return to action on Wednesday when the Eagles host North Carolina Wesleyan College at 4:30 p.m.
