UMW Women’s Soccer Tops Ferrum, 2-0, on Sunday Evening

The University of Mary Washington women's soccer team topped Ferrum College, 2-0, on Sunday evening in Ferrum, VA. Head coach Scott Gerseny earns his first win with UMW. The Eagles improve to 1-1 on the young season.

UMW got off to a fast start as Anna Longacher scored just two minutes into the game on an assist from Gracie Williams. The Eagles kept the pressure on as Corinne Carson and Katherine Brady recorded two shots on goal in the next 10 minutes. The shots kept coming in for the Eagles for the duration of the half but couldn't put a second one in the back of the net.

In the second half, Carson kept banging shots on target but the Ferrum goalie erased them. UMW finally put one in the back of the net with 61:15 to play as Brielle Mitchell got in the scoring column. The Eagles defense kept the Ferrum offense at bay the whole game and only allowed them to three shots.

Allison Nork improves to 1-1 on the season and made three saves in goal for the Eagles. UMW outshot Ferrum 15-3 and had four corner kicks.

UMW will be back in action on Saturday when they host Washington & Lee at 12:30 pm as part of the UMW Classic.
