Carson, Williams Named to VaSID College Division All-State Soccer Team

BUENA VISTA, Va.— The Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID) announced the 2018 College Division All-State Women's Soccer Teams on Tuesday, headlined by Christopher Newport's Gabby Gillis who was chosen for the second consecutive year as VaSID Player of the Year, with Hanna Randolph from Bridgewater College earning the rookie of the year honor and Dan Weiler with his third straight Coach of the Year Honor.

 

This year's soccer All-State teams represented eleven different Virginia programs, chose from programs at Division II, III and NAIA level. Christopher Newport claimed the most nominations for the second straight year, with a total of seven student-athletes selections, five of which earning first team, tying last season's five first-team nominations. Twelve players from the Old Dominion Athletic Conference were selected with the Capital Athletic Conference having nine selections. The only other selection spot belonged to Marymount University of the Atlantic East Conference.

 

Christopher Newport's Gabby Gillis (Leesburg, Va.) was named VaSID Player of the Year and earned a spot on the first team after being named Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) Player of the Year for the second season. She registered 15 goals, in the Captains record-breaking season (21-2-0) and a national semifinals appearance. Gillis recorded career-highs in every statistical category earning all-American, all-region, and all-conference honors.

 

The Eagle's Hanna Randolph (Woodbridge, Va.) collected the VaSID Rookie of the Year and a spot on the first team after the midfielder recorded seven goals and seven assists. Randolph was named the ODAC Rookie of the Year and was named to the ODAC First Team. She was also the only freshman named to the 2018 All-South Atlantic Region Second Team.

 

CNU's Dan Weiler earns Coach of the Year honors after the Captains best season in school history and ending the 2018 season with the teams highest national ranking in program history at No. 4.

 

VaSID names 27 all-state teams in 15 sports each year, as well as an Academic All-State squad and an all-sports champion in both the University and College Divisions. Membership in VaSID is open to all media relations professionals working at a University or conference in the state of Virginia.
