UMW Women’s Soccer Tops Marymount, 4-0, on Friday Evening

The University of Mary Washington women's soccer team downed Marymount University 4-0 on Friday nighte in Arlington, VA. The Eagles improve to 3-1-1 on the season.

In the early going, the Eagles were attacking hard as they gained three corner kicks in the first eight minutes. UMW didn't let up as they had four shots over the next 10 minutes. Freshman Abby Zimmerman found the net in the 20th minute on a misplayed clear attempt that was chipped over the goalie.

From there, the Eagles kept their foot on the gas. Lindsey Hendrickson netted her second goal of the season on an assist from Corinne Carson in the 31st minute. The two teams played even over the last 14 minutes and UMW took a 2-0 lead into the half.

Just three minutes into the second half, the Eagles added a third goal from Sara Sabo on an assist from Brooke Bauman. In the 53rd minute, Anna Longacher capped the scoring for UMW as she beat the defender and then shot the ball over the keepers head. The UMW defense held strong in the second half and did not allow a goal.

The Eagles outshot the Saints 21-7 and produced 12 corner kicks. Allison Nork made her first start in goal and recorded two saves.

UMW will be back in action on Sunday as they will host Meredith at 1 p.m.
