UMW Women's Soccer Blanks Marymount, 4-0, in CAC Opener

The University of Mary Washington women's soccer team started scoring late in the first half and continued its momentum with a three-score second half in a 4-0 shutout win over visiting Marymount University on Saturday at the Battleground for Eagle Nation Day. The Eagles improve to 5-4 overall, and 1-0 in Capital Athletic Conference play.

After outshooting the Saints, 12-1, in the first half, UMW reached the scoreboard at 42:23, as Lauren Brower scored on a Grace Friedl cross. 

In the second half, the shots and goals kept coming. Freshman Erica Ganthner scored on a Christina Carlston assist at 64:37, and Christiana Meyers scored on a Malorie Joseph helper at 74:56. Freshman Jordan Rock capped the scoring at 84:46, as her shot hit off the keeper, the post, and into goal.

UMW led in shots, 27-2, on the day, and 16-0 in corner kicks. Sophomore goalie Kelcie Macomber made one save in recording her first shutout for the Eagles, while Sydney Sherman had 12 saves for Marymount.

The Eagles will return to action on Tuesday when they visit Shenandoah University at 7:00 p.m.
