Reynolds, Bednarcik Lead UMW Women's Soccer Past Methodist, 3-1

Senior Erin Reynolds scored a pair of goals and sophomore Jessica Bednarcik added another to pace the University of Mary Washington women's soccer team in a 3-1 win over Methodist University on Sunday at the Battleground. The Eagles even their record at 3-3.

"Today was about team execution and workrate off the ball", said UMW head coach Corey Hewson. "It was great to see some new faces make a solid contribution to the effort and Jess get off the mark."

Reynolds started the scoring at 7:29, scoring from right of goal after a pass from Leah Roth, and added the eventual game winner at 28:38 unassisted. Methodist cut the deficit in half at 37:19 on a score from Crystal Benfield, and the score stood at 2-1 at halftime.

In the second, Bednarcik struck quickly, finding the nets at 46:38 on a pass from Lizzie Weast. Both defenses stiffened, with the final score standing at 3-1. The Eagles led in shots, 22-4, and in corner kicks, 10-3. Sarah hayden had 11 saves for Methodist, while Alyssa Goodwin had three stops for UMW.

The Eagles will return to action next Saturday when they visit Drew University at 3:00 p.m.
