Reynolds' Two Scores Lead UMW Women's Soccer Past Ferrum, 6-1

Senior forward Erin Reynolds scored the team's first two goals, as the University of Mary Washington women's soccer team defeated Ferrum College, 6-1, on Sunday in Ferrum. The Eagles improve to 1-1 on the season.

"The girls made the decision to respond from their loss on Friday," said UMW head coach Corey Hewson. "Their communication and work rate off the ball made all the difference."

Reynolds got the Eagles on the scoreboard early, scoring on a Lizzie Weast assist at 3:38, and, after a Ferrum score, again at 36:48 on a Weast assist. UMW held a 2-1 advantage at halftime.

The Eagles blew the game open in the second half, as sophomore Leah Roth scored at 51:00 on a Michelle Gibbons assist, and Weast scored 1:55 later unassisted. At 72:14, Sam Lockley scored on a Jessica Bednarcik assist, and Jenna Abraham scored at 84:57, unassisted.

"As a whole the team came together at halftime", said Reynolds, whose 13 scores last year fell just one shy of the school record. "We signled in a on a few key things to work on, people stepped up, and we executed."

Mary Washington led in shots, 34-5, and had five corner kicks. Alyssa Goodwin had one save in 78 minutes and Sara Armor no saves in 12 minutes of relief for UMW.

The Eagles will return to action on September 7 when they host Emory & Henry College at 12:30 p.m.
