Sophomore Jenny Mayo scored the tying goal with 58.3 seconds left in regulation, and the University of  Mary Washington women's soccer team overcame a 2-0 deficit in the shootout to advance past St. Mary's College, 3-2 in the shootout and to the Capital Athletic Conference semifinals on Saturday at the Battleground. UMW improves to 13-1-3 on the year.

St. Mary's opened the scoring in the 19th minute, as Tori Eskay scored on a Liz Mosher assist. The game remained 1-0 through halftime, and until Mayo scored in the closing minute of regulation. Of UMW's 44 goals this season, 15 have come in the final 10 minutes of play.

After two scoreless overtimes, the Seahawks made their first two attempts, while the Eagles missed. After both teams missed their third chance, Jenna Abraham connected for UMW, and the Seahawks missed to cut the deficit to 2-1 with one kicker left in the series of five. Kelsey Carter made her chance for UMW and St. Mary's missed to tie the score and send the session to sudden death. After both teams missed their first chance, Lizzie Weast made her chance, and UMW goalkeeper Charlotte Owens saved the Seahawks' chance, giving UMW the result.

"We asked the girls at halftime to play with a bit more energy and passion", said UMW head coach Corey Hewson.  "...and that's just what they did. I could not be more proud of the entire group."

The Eagles will advance to the CAC semifinals on Tuesday afternoon at Salisbury university at 2:30 p.m.
