Reynolds' Late 2OT Score Lifts UMW Women's Soccer to 5-4 win in 2012 Opener

Junior Erin Reynolds scored her second goal of the day with just 36 seconds remaining in the second overtime to lift the University of Mary Washington women's soccer team to a 5-4 win at Bridgewater College in both teams' season opener on Friday afternoon.

The Eagles jumped on top first, as freshman Leah Roth scored on a Reynolds assist at 19:01. Bridgewater answered with a pair of goals less than two minutes apart at 25:44 and 27:06, and carried the lead of 2-1 to halftime after edging the Eagles in shots, 10-8 in the opening stanza.

Mary Washington scored to tie the affair at 56:23, as freshman Sydney Cook netted her first goal on another Reynolds assist. Reynolds then scored just 49 seconds later on a Jessica Bednarcik pass, giving UMW the lead once again. Bednarcik scored at 62:45, and UMW led by two.

Bridgewater scored to cut the deficit to 4-3 with less than nine minutes remaining, and tied the score on a score from Krissy Snyder at 85:55. After a scoreless first extra period, Reynolds provided the heroics at 109:24, scoring unassisted.

The hosts held a 19-17 shot advantage, and a 4-3 edge in corner kicks. Charlotte Owens had three svaes in the first half, and freshman Alexa Farone made three stops in 65 minutes of play. Taylor Riley had five saves for Bridgewater.

The Eagles will face Averett University on Saturday at 5:00 p.m. in Bridgewater.
