Reynolds' Hat Trick Leads UMW Women's Soccer Past Hood, 7-1

Sophomore forward Erin Reynolds (Oakton, Va., Oakton) scored three goals, and senior Marianne Dubinsky (Blacksburg, Va., Blacksburg) added a goal and an assist to lead the University of Mary Washington women's soccer team to a 7-1 win over Hood College on Wednesday afternoon at the Battleground. The Eagles improve to 8-4-2 on the season, and 3-3-1 in Capital Athletic Conference action.

The Eagles struck very quickly on Wednesday, as junior Excy Herrera (Alexandria, Va., Thomas Edison) scored on a Jenny Mayo assist at 1:07 into the game. Just 1:05 later, Reynolds scored her first goal on an Amy Olson assist. Sophomore Kelsey Carter (Richmond, Va., Mills Godwin) netted the Eagles' third goal less than 15 minutes into play, and UMW upped the lead to 4-0 by halftime as Dubinsky scored on a Sam Lockley assist.

The second half saw Reynolds score twice in a 14-second span, just five seconds off the NCAA Division III record, at 51:57 and 52:11. Hood's Stephanie Weaver broke the shutout in the 70th minute, but sophomore Tina Rader (Springfield, Va., West Springfield) capped the scoring at 84:21.

Mary Washington led in shots, 25-6, and in corner kicks, 5-2. Both Tina Brehm (Springfield, Va., Robert E. Lee) and Charlotte Owens (Fairfax, Va., Robinson) each made one save while splitting time in goal.

The Eagles will host Stevenson University in an important CAC game for Homecoming on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
