UMW Women's Soccer Falls in OT to Frostburg, 2-1

The University of Mary Washington women’s soccer team held a 1-0 lead for much of the afternoon, but could not hold on at the end in a 2-1 overtime loss to Frostburg State University on Saturday afternoon at the Battleground in Capital Athletic Conference action. The Eagles fall to 5-2-1 and 2-1, while the Bobcats improve to 8-1 and 3-0.

The Eagles went ahead early as senior Chrissy Reardon (Springfield, Va., Robert E. Lee) scored on an assist from junior Amy Olson (Crofton, Md., Arundel) on UMW’s first shot at 5:45. Olson crossed the ball from the right flank to Reardon, whose one-touch flew just inside the far post. The Eagles held a 1-0 lead at halftime.

Frostburg finally equaled the score at 73:50 on an Amanda Wharton goal assisted by Cassie Donohue. After the teams finished regulation tied, Wharton scored again at 93:16 with the game winner.

Frostburg outshot the Eagles, 18-6, and led in corner kicks, 4-2. Michelle Buckmaster had four saves for the Bobcats while Tina Brehm (Springfield, Va., Robert E. Lee) had six stops for the Eagles.

Mary Washington will host Marymount University on Tuesday at 4:00 p.m.
