UMW Women's Lacrosse Falls at #8 W&L to Close Regular Season

The University of Mary Washington women's lacrosse team dropped a 20-6 decision at eighth-ranked Washington and Lee University on Sunday afternoon in Lexington, Va. The Eagles close the regular season with a record of 5-12.

The Eagles jumped out to a 2-1 lead, as Bridget Crowley opened the the scoring at 13:29, and fellow senior Katie Blair added another at 10:01 of the first quarter. The Generals responded with six straight goals, but UMW bounced back with a score from Victoria Mueller at 52 seconds on a pass from Molly Daw.

In the second, Blair notched the first score on a Daw assist at 14:11 to pull the Eagles to within 7-4, but the Generals took charge, scoring six straight to close the half with a 13-4 lead. Daw added a free position score in the third quarter, and Blair added one in the fourth for the Eagles.

Washington & Lee led in shots, 37-19. UMW goalkeepers Cailyn Tripp and Alison Carolan combined for eight saves.

The Eagles will visit Christopher Newport University on Wednesday in the Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference semifinal. First draw is set for 5:00 p.m.
