UMW Women's Lax Falls in Triple OT to Stevenson, 10-9

The University of Mary Washington women's lacrosse team dropped a 10-9 decision in triple overtime on Friday evening at the Battleground. The Eagles slip to 3-7 on the season.

The Eagles opened the scoring, as junior Molly Daw scored unassisted at 12:51 of the first. The Mustangs responded with the tying goal 1:26 later, but Daw added another at 8:42. The Mustangs knotted the score at 2-2 just seconds later, but again Daw found the nets at 6:15 to put UMW back ahead. The Mustangs then scored the last goal of the first and the first three of the second to assume a 6-3 lead, before Caeley Terapane notched a man-up score. Stevenson added another late to lead, 7-4, at halftime.

The third quarter was a mirror image of the second, but with UMW outscoring Stevenson, 4-1. Bridget Crowley started the run at 11:09, and Abigail Fisher added another less than a minute later. After the Mustangs scored, Daw notched two more scores, at 8:07 and 7:32, to tie the score.

The Mustangs opened the fourth with a goal, but Fisher knotted the score with 7:41 left to tie the score at 9-9. The score would remain tied through regulation and two full three-minute overtime periods before Stevenson found the game winner with two seconds left.

Stevenson led in shots, 31-29, as well as in draw controls, 13-10. UMW goalkeeper Cailyn Tripp made 12 saves.

The Eagles will return to action on Wednesday, when they host York College of PA at 4:00 p.m.
