UMW Women's Lacrosse Falls at Christopher Newport in C2C Semifinal

The University of Mary Washington women's lacrosse team dropped a 17-8 decision at Christopher Newport University on Wednesday evening in Newport News, Va. The Eagles slip to 9-9 on the season.

After CNU scored first, the Eagles knotted the score at 1-1, as Maya Koebke scored on a Katie Blair assist with 10:39 remaining. The Captains scored five straight to close the quarter, and led, 6-1, after 15 minutes. CNU then scored five straight to open the second quarter, with a score from Kayla Sarazin in the final minute before halftime cutting the margin to 11-2 at halftime. 

In the third, CNU scored twice before Molly Daw scored on a Sarazin assist with 5:36 left. CNU then scored two more before the close of the period, and the Eagles trailed, 15-3, after three periods. In the fourth, the Eagles reeled off five straight goals to open play. Victoria Mueller scored on a Sarazin assist, and Erin Steinberg followed on a Blair assist with 9:26 left. Blair then scored unassisted, and Clare Madden scored on a Mueller assist, before Blair tallied another unassisted tally to cap the Eagles' scoring.

The Captains led in shots, 37-13, as well as draw controls, 16-11. UMW goalkeeper Cailyn Tripp made 11 saves and Brooke Barsella added one in relief.
