UMW Women's Lacrosse Tops Denison, 14-9, on Saturday

The University of Mary Washington women's lacrosse team defeated Denison University, 14-9, on Saturday in Granville, Ohio. The Eagles improve to 8-5 on the season.

After allowing the first score, UMW reeled off three straight, all from freshman Maya Koebke. Denison closed the quarter with a goal to pull to within 3-2.

In the second, Clare Madden opened the scoring at 9:00, but Denison scored two to knot the score at 4-4. From there, the Eagles scored three straight. Erin Steinberg opened the run on a Katie Blair assist, and was followed by Molly Daw and Blair, and UMW led at the half, 7-4.

In the third, Denison scored one before the Eagles answered with three more. Daw scored a pair in the quarter, with Daelyn Gregory adding another. The Eagles scored four of the first five, with Blair, Kayla Sarazin, Bridget Crowley and Daw finding the net.

UMW led in shots, 33-27, and ground balls, 21-17. Cailyn Tripp had nine saves and Brooke Barsella none in relief.

The Eagles will be back in action on Wenesday when they visit York College of Pa. at 4:00 p.m.
