Koebke's 9 Points Raises UMW Women's Lacrosse Over Meredith College, 17-10

Freshman Maya Koebke scored four goals and added five assists leading the University of Mary Washington women's lacrosse team to a 17-10 victory over Meredith College on Wednesday evening in Raleigh, N.C. The Eagles improve to 4-0 on the season.

UMW held control in the 1st quarter, as Clare Madden and Erin Steinberg scored the first 2 Eagle goals 19 seconds apart at 12:59 and 12:40, respectively. Meredith College scored at the 10:00 mark off a free position shot, but UMW pushed ahead with 3 unassisted goals. The first of three came from Maya Koebke and the second and third straight came from Kayla Sarazin. Bridget Crowley would go on to score unassisted with 20 seconds left in the 1st making the score 6-2.

Meredith would outscore Mary Washington 3-2 in the 2nd quarter, with Katie Blair finding the back of the net twice at 12:33 and 6:24. The same trend would continue in the 3rd quarter, as Meredith would not go down without a fight. The Avenging Angels outscored the Eagles 4-3 in the 3rd, with Maya Koebke scoring 2 goals at 4:05 and 1:10, respectively. Caeley Terapane scored at 2:22, with Maya Koebke notching an assist.

UMW would outscore Meredith College 6-1 in the final quarter, as Katie Blair, Victoria Mueller, Maya Koebke, Bridget Crowley, Erin Steinberg, and Caeley Terapane each notched another goal.

The Eagles led in shots, 40-24, and tied the Avenging Angels in ground balls at 36 apiece. The Eagles won 18 of 31 draw controls, with Sarazin collecting twelve. UMW junior goalkeeper Cailyn Tripp made 9 saves for the Eagles.

Mary Washington will be back in action on Friday against Roanoke College at 4:00 p.m.
