UMW Women's Lacrosse falls at Christopher Newport in C2C Semifinal

The University of Mary Washington women's lacrosse team fell behind early and nearly pulled off a comeback, but fell just short in a 5-4 loss at Christopher Newport University on Wednesday in the Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference semifinal. The Eagles slip to 9-9 on the season.

Christopher Newport started the game by juping out to a 4-0 lead, with three goals in the first quarter and one to start the second. The game was interrupted for more than an hour with five minutes remaining in the first and the Eagles trailing, 1-0, due to lightning in the area. The Eagles then rallied, as junior Kayla Sarazin scored with 9:38 remaining, and the score stayed at 4-1 to halftime.

In the third quarter, the Eagles started the comeback after CNU started the scoring to up their lead to 5-1. Senior Rebecca Pullen started the streak, scoring at 8:54 on a Molly Daw assist. Junior Erin Steinberg followed with a goal at 3:41 left in the third, and senior Samantha Stachowiak pulled UMW to within one at 5-4 with 14:21 left in the fourth, but neither team would score in the final 14:21, and the game ended at 5-4.

The Eagles led in shots, 19-16, as well as ground balls, 17-13. UMW goalkeeper Reilly Miller made 10 saves in the defensive battle.
