UMW Women's Lacrosse Falls to #2 Salisbury, 15-7, on Saturday

The University of Mary Washington women's lacrosse team dropped a 15-7 decision to second-ranked Salisbury University on Saturday at the Battleground in both teams' Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference opener. The Eagles slip to 6-5 on the season.

The Sea Gulls built an early lead in the first, scoring the first three goals of the game. UMW scored with 5:44 left in the first on a score from Samantha Stachowiak, assisted by Erin Steinberg. The Sea Gulls scored the final two goals of the frame to lead, 5-1.

The teams traded the first four goals of the second quarter, as Katie Blair and Rachel Oestrike netted goals for the Eagles. Salisbury scored the last three goals of the period to lead, 10-3, at halftime.

The Eagles saw Salisbury net the first three scores of the third quarter, before Steinberg scored at 8:11 on a Kayla Sarazin assist. Salisbury scored the final two goals of the third. UMW outscored the Gulls, 3-0, in the fourth, with Oestrike, Blair, and Steinberg finding the nets.

Salisbury led in shots, 29-23, as well as ground balls, 22-13. UMW goalkeeper Reilly Miller made 10 saves on the day.

The Eagles will be back in action on Wednesday, when they host Catholic University at 4:00 p.m.
