UMW Women's Lacrosse Falls at Stevenson, 13-12, on Friday Night

The University of Mary Washington women's lacrosse team dropped a 13-12 decision at Stevenson University on Friday night in Owings Mills, Md. The Eagles fall to 2-3 on the season.

After the hosts scored in the opening minute, UMW responded with three straight scores to take the lead. Katie Blair opened UMW's scoring, at 13:04, and Rebecca Pullen followed unassisted at 11:29. Erin Stenberg added another with 7:40 to give UMW a 3-1 advantage. After Stevenson cut the margin to 3-2, Blair added another on a Bridget Crowley assist to cap the first quarter scoring.

In the second, the teams traded scores, with Clare Madden scoring on a Blair assist, and Pullen scoring on a man-up chance, on an assist from Steinberg. UMW led at intermission, 6-4.

In the third quarter, the Mustangs scored four of the first five goals to take an 8-7 lead, before Kayla Sarazin and Steinberg scored to return the lead to UMW, 9-8. Stevenson scored the final two goals of the third to take a 10-9 lead to the fourth quarter.

UMW scored two of the first three goals in the final quarter, with Crowley and Steinberg connecting for scores. Blair scored another after a Stevenson goal, but the Mustangs scored the eventual game winner with 1:40 remaining.

Steinberg had four goals and an assist, while Blair added three goals and one assist.

Stevenson led in shots, 34-28, and UMW led in ground balls, 7-3. Eagle goalkeeper Reilly Miller made 11 saves for the Eagles.

Mary Washington will be back in action again on Wednesday when the Eagles host Randolph-Macon College at 4:00 p.m.
