UMW Women's Lacrosse Tops Rhodes, 14-5, on Wednesday

The University of Mary Washington women's lacrosse team defeated Rhodes College, 14-5, on Wednesday afternoon in Memphis, Tennessee. The Eagles even their season record at 1-1.

UMW opened the scoring just a minute into the game, as sophomore Katie Blair scored. Bridget Crowley followed seven minutes later, and, after a Rhodes goal, Blair added another before Molly Daw scored to cap the first quarter, giving UMW a 4-1 cushion.

Rhodes scored to open the second quarter, but the Eagles answered with three straight. Blair tallied her third of the day, before Kayla Sarazin and Rory Black also connected for goals, and the Eagles led, 7-2, at halftime.

The hosts scored to open the third, but UMW responded with four straight. Blair continued her stellar day with her fourth goal, and Stachowiak followed with two goals and Sarazin added another.

In the fourth, Carly Lanzarotta opened the scoring, with Rebecca Pullen and Daw also finding the nets.

Blair led the way with four goals, while Stachowiak, Sarazin, and Daw each scored twice.

UMW led in shots, 33-22, as well as ground balls, 23-17. UMW goalkeeper Reilly Miller made nine saves in 55 minutes, and Allison Carolan provided five minutes of relief.

The Eagles will be back in action on Saturday when they host Meredith University at noon.
