Mary Washington's Sarazin & Cole Sweep C2C Women's Lacrosse Weekly Honors

The Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference (C2C) has announced its weekly awards following the fourth week of the 2021 women's lacrosse season. Mary Washington sophomore Kayla Sarazin earned C2C Offensive Player of the Week accolades, while Mary Washington senior Rylie Cole claimed C2C Defensive Player of the Week honors.


OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Kayla Sarazin - Mary Washington

Sophomore attacker Kayla Sarazin's steady offense led #17 Mary Washington to a pair of wins this week. She scored five goals and added two assists in a 14-8 win over Shenandoah, and also collected seven draw controls on the day. She then scored five goals and added one assist in an 18-12 win over Christopher Newport on Saturday.


DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Rylie Cole - Mary Washington

All-region senior defender Rylie Cole led #17 Mary Washington to a pair of victories this week. In a 14-8 victory over Shenandoah, she posted four ground balls, two draw controls, and one caused turnover. In a key C2C win over Christopher Newport on Saturday, she registered nine draw controls and a pair of caused turnovers as the Eagles topped the #25 Captains.

LEAGUE HIGHLIGHTS

Cat Leighty led the Christopher Newport with 11 goals during a pair of nationally-ranked tilts last week. On Wednesday, she posted a team-high six strikes during a 17-4 win over No. 23 Lynchburg. That marked the program's third all-time win over a nationally-ranked opponent and its first since 2016. On Saturday, she came back with a game-high five goals at No. 17 Mary Washington. During that contest, she also registered her 100th career goal, becoming just the 15th Captain to reach that milestone...Sam Wettengel had four takeaways, four ground balls, and eight draw controls during Christopher Newport's 17-4 win over No. 23 Lynchburg on Wednesday. Guided by that performance, the Captains limited the Hornets to the fewest goals (4) and shots (13) by a nationally-ranked opponent in school history. That victory also marked Christopher Newport's third-ever triumph over a top-25 foe. On Saturday, Wettengel came back with two more draws and a pair of ground balls at No. 17 Mary Washington. Chipping in on the offensive side as well, the senior also added three points during the week, including a goal and an assist against the Eagles....Lily Davison netted four goals in a 12-7 victory over Randolph-Macon on Sunday (Mar. 28) to push No. 20 St. Mary's women's lacrosse team to 3-1 on the year...Aimee Uibel earned her third victory of the season in goal as the No. 20 St. Mary's College of Maryland women's lacrosse defeated Randolph-Macon 12-7 on Sunday (Mar. 28). The senior collected nine saves and two ground balls, while holding the Yellow Jackets to just seven goals...Alexis Strobel tallied five points in second-ranked Salisbury's 18-6 win over Rowan on Wednesday to help Salisbury remain undefeated at 7-0. Strobel scored a pair of goals and dished out three assists in the victory...In Salisbury's lone game of the week on Wednesday, Carrie Hesen collected three draw controls, two ground balls and caused a turnover to help SU pick up an 18-6 win over Rowan....In the dominant 16-1 victory over Va. Wesleyan, Southern Virginia's Alissa Johnson recorded six points, scoring four goals and two assists. Johnson leads the team in both goals and points, bringing her totals to 31 goals and 11 assists on the year in just eight games played.
