Senior women's lacrosse standout Paige Haskins has been named as the 2019-20 Spring Female Athlete of the Year at the University of Mary Washington.
An all-region and all-conference selection a season ago, Haskins changed roles for the Eagles in 2020, moving to an offensive position with the graduation of the bulk of the offense from a season ago, and thrived. She ended the brief season tied for the CAC lead in goals (29) and was tied for fifth in points (32), and surpassed both the 100-goal and 100-point career plateaus in UMW's first seven contests.
The co-captain scored seven of UMW's 10 goals in the season opener against eighth-ranked Washington & Lee University, and added six in a win against McDaniel.
"Paige is one of the most competitive student-athletes I have had the opportunity to coach…her absolute FIRE on field is what makes her so incredible", said her head coach, Caitlin Moore. "She has been an impact player since DAY 1 in our program, playing midfield (no easy task with a possession clock and free movement!) for her first three years, and absolutely crushing it at attack in her final season – truly stepping up in an area we needed it most. Paige was a unanimous vote for co-captain by her teammates, and has done an incredible job of leading this group. During her time here, she has enjoyed a tremendous amount of on-field success, helping to re-write the UMW record books. This year, Paige established herself as a force, leading our offensive unit and coming up with big plays when we needed it most."
This year, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, UMW Male and Female Athlete of the Year awards will be divided into each of the three sports seasons (fall, winter, and spring). The Scholar-Athlete of the Year awards will be released as usual following the posting of final grades in May.
