#5 UMW Women’s Lacrosse Falls to #9 York, 9-7, on Friday

The fifth-ranked University of Mary Washington women's lacrosse fell to ninth-ranked York College, 9-7, on Friday evening in Fredericksburg, Va. UMW is now 11-2 overall, and 4-1 in the CAC.

In the early going, the Eagles jumped out to a 2-0 lead Holly Hudson scored and then Paige Haskins scored on an assist from Hudson just 2:11 into the game. 

The Spartans answered as they scored two goals in a row and tied it up with 12:48 to play. With 10:05 left in the half, Allison Davis scored to put UMW up 3-2. That score stood until halftime as both teams played stellar defense.

In the second half, York tied the game up at three a piece with 27:38 left. Savannah Boyd put the Eagles ahead as she scored with`25:26 left. Just 32 seconds later, York tied the score up yet again at 4-4. Hudson scored her second goal of the day with 23:32 to play to put UMW up 5-4.

From there, the Spartans scored four in a row to take an 8-5 lead with 10:31 remaining in the game. Hope Lockwood scored on an assist from Hudson with 8:32 left to bring the Eagles within two, 8-6. York scored their final goal with 5:16 remaining. With 1:47 to play Davis added her second tally of the day to bring the score to 9-7. UMW couldn't get any closer and fell 9-7.

Sophomore Paige Haskins caused two turnovers and picked up five ground balls on the day. Hanna Ashby made eight saves for the Eagles in her first game back.

UMW will be back in action on Wednesday as they host CNU in a CAC clash that will start at 4 p.m.
