Junior Allison Davis scored five goals and assisted on another to lead the 17th ranked University of Mary Washington women's lacrosse team to an 18-6 victory over Shenandoah University on Wednesday afternoon at the Battleground. The Eagles improve to 2-0, while the Hornets fall to 1-1.

The Eagles started the scoring at 27:02, as junior Paige Haskins scored on an assist from classmate Mackenzie Maguire. Maguire would score on a free position shot at 24:31, and Savannah Boyd would score one minute later on another free position chance to up the margin to 3-0.

Then at 22:40 left in the first, the lead grew to 4-0 as Hope Lockwood scored on a Kristen Kunaniec assist. The Hornets would score to momentarily stop the momentum, but UMW answered back at 9:29 on a Lockwood goal assisted by Maguire.

UMW rolled on to the final six goals of the half, as Julia Albert scored on a Maguire assist at 8:45 left, and Holly Hudson followed at 7:46 on a free position. Davis followed with the first of her five scores on a man-up free position shot, and again with 49 seconds left. Boyd capped the half with a free position goal with two seconds left.

The Hornets scored the first two goals of the second half, but then UMW reeled off four straight. Albert scored with 23:20 left, and Kunaniec followed with 21:00 remaining. Hudson and Davis scored over the next two minutes, as UMW built a 14-3 advantage.

The Hornets rallied for a pair of goals to draw to within nine, but the Eagles scored three straight to end the game after the teams traded scores. Davis had two of the final three, with Madison Hurlburt providing the capper.

UMW led in shots, 33-18, as well as ground balls, 20-12. Shannon Bremer made 11 saves for Mary Washington, while Maddie Albornoz had four for Shenandoah.

The Eagles will return to action on Saturday when they visit Lynchburg College at 1:00 p.m.
