#15 UMW Women's Lacrosse Falls at Catholic, 9-7, on Wednesday

The 15th ranked University of Mary Washington women's lacrosse team fell to Catholic University, 9-7, on Wednesday afternoon. The Eagles fall to 8-1 on the season.

The Eagles got off to a fast start, jumping to a 2-0 lead on goals from Ashlyn Dacey and Kelsey Vincent. Catholic responded at the 19:47 minute mark to cut the deficit to 2-1.

The Eagles scored three unanswered and held a 5-1 advantage going into half time. Sabrina Elliott, Julia Albert, and Dacey all scored goals in the run.

In the second half, Catholic came out on fire, scoring five unanswered goals to take a 6-5 lead with 16:46 remaining in the game. But with 13:08 left, Holly Hudson evened the score at 6-6

Catholic scored just 20 seconds later, taking the lead back at 7-6. With 12:03 remaining, the Eagles took no time to respond, as Dacey found Emily Mott, tying the game at seven apiece. Catholic scored two more goals, and the Eagles would go scoreless the rest of the game, bringing the final to 9-7.

Ashlyn Dacey led the Eagles with two goals, while five other Eagles each found the net once.

The Eagles led in shots 26-22, while the Cardinals held a 27-21 advantage in ground balls. Catholic won 11 draw controls to UMW's seven. Kelsey Welsh had six saves in goal for the Eagles.

The Eagles are back in action on Saturday at Frostburg State at 3:00 pm.
