Elliott's Hat Trick Leads UMW Women's Lax Past Washington & Lee, 8-7

Junior Sabrina Elliott scored three goals to lead the University of Mary Washington women's lacrosse team to an 8-7 win at Washington & Lee on Saturday afternoon. The Eagles improve to 2-0 on the season.

W&L jumped to a quick 2-0 lead in the opening minutes of the first half. UMW responded just minutes later with a goal from Elliott. At the 21:07 mark Julia Albert scored to even the score at 2-2. W&L finished the half with a 4-2 run, with both UMW goals coming from Elliott. W&L led 6-4 at the half.

In the second, Albert scored again at the 23:39 mark, and Mackenzie Maguire scored at the 22:44 mark to tie it up at 6-6. W&L briefly took back the lead with 20 minutes remaining in the game, but Kirsten Littlefield scored less than a minute later on a free position shot to tie it back up at 7-7. With 13:12 left in the game, Kelsey Vincent scored on a free position shot to give the Eagles an 8-7 lead, capping the scoring off for the game, giving the Eagles the one-goal win.

Mary Washington led in shots 14-8, and in draw controls, 11-6. Hannah Wiltshire had two saves in goal for Washington & Lee.

The Eagles are back in action on Wednesday at 4:00 pm as they visit Lynchburg College.
