The University of Mary Washington women's lacrosse team dropped a 14-7 decision at #2 ranked Salisbury University on Saturday afternoon in Capital Athletic Conference action. The Eagles fall to 6-5 on the season.
The Sea Gulls ran out to a 5-0 lead before senior Keller Torrey scored with 17:32 remaining in the first half. Salisbury scored three straight to open up an 8-1 lead before the eagles settled in, scoring three of the final five goals of the half. Junior Megan Gersbeck scored on a free position attempt with eight minutes left, and Torrey scored twice in the final four minutes to cut the halftime deficit to 10-4.
In the second, Salisbury scored twice to open play. Junior Jenna Petrucelli scored on a Katie Williams assist with 25:36 left, and Emily Atkinson scored with 18:32 remaining. Petrucelli cappedthe scoring with 1:12 left in the contest.
Salisbury led in shots, 35-17, and in ground balls, 22-17. Senior goalie Kathryn Stiltz made 17 saves for the Eagles, and also added a team-high seven ground balls.
The Eagles will return to action on April 6 when they host #10 York College of Pa. at 1:00 p.m.
