#13/#15 UMW Women's Lacrosse Opens With 15-13 Win at CNU as Hall Wins 250th

Senior attacker Keller Torrey scored five goals to lead the #13/#15 University of Mary Washington women's lacrosse team to a 15-13 win at Christopher Newport University on Saturday in both teams' season lidlifter. Freshman Ashlyn Dacey scored three times, and Katie Williams added two goals and an assist for the Eagles. Head coach Dana Hall won her 250th lacrosse game in her coaching career.

After the Captains scored the first two goals, UMW answered with six straight goals to lead 6-2, with 14:17 remaining. Torrey was the catalyst, scoring three times. The Captains cloded the gap to 8-6, but Torrey scored again in the closing minutes to give the Eagles a 9-6 halftime advantage.

In the second half, the Captains scored five straight goals to take an 11-9 lead with 22 minutes left, but the Eagles righted the ship as Dacey scored with 19:59 left, and Emily Atkinson tied the score with 19:05 left.

After CNU regained the lead, Torrey scored again to knot the score, and Corrine Wiederkehr gave the Eagles the lead at 13-12 with 13:16 remaining. Jessica Singer tied the score for CNU with six minutes remaining, but the Captains wouldn't score again. Dacey took over, scoring the go-ahead goal with three minutes left, and added another a minute later to give UMW the hard-fought win.

The Eagles were outshot, 32-27, and had just seven shots in the second, but of those seven, six scored goals. UMW will visit fourth-ranked Gettysburg College on Thursday at 4:00 p.m.
