#11 UMW Women's Lax Falls at #2 Cortland, 12-5, in NCAA Tournament Second Round

The 11th ranked University of Mary Washington women's lacrosse team fell to second-ranked SUNY Cortland, 12-5, on Saturday in the second round of the NCAA Division III Tournament on Saturday in Cortland, N.Y. The Eagles finish with a record of 14-5 on the year.

Cortland jumped ahead early, scoring the game's first four goals. The Eagles cut the deficit to 4-1 on an Allie Kimmelman goal with 20:05 to play in the first half. After Cortland scored the next three goals to up the lead to 7-1, UMW scored three of the next four goals to cut the deficit to 8-4 at halftime. Keller Torrey started the run on an assist from Kimmelman at 12:25, and Kimmelman followed at 7:48. Jenna Petrucelli capped the first half scoring at 3:35 remaining in the half.

In the second half, the defenses tightened, with Cortland scoring twice in the opening six minutes, then scored twice more the rest of the game. UMW's lone second half goal came from Torrey on a free position shot with 15:57 to play.

Cortland led in shots, 26-23, and in draw controls, 14-5. UMW held a 22-20 advantage in ground balls. Torrey had two goals and one assist, and Kimmelman added two goals for UMW. Kathryn Stiltz had seven saves in goal for the Eagles. Cortland was led by Erin Kollar's four goals.
