Kennedy's Milestones Lead UMW Women's Lax Past Frostburg in CAC 1st Round, 19-7


Junior All-American Catherine Kennedy became just the third player in school history to surpass 100 points in a season and also broke the UMW career goals scored record, as the University of Mary Washington women's lacrosse team defeated Frostburg State University, 19-7, on Sunday in the first round of the Capital Athletic Conference Tournament. The Eagles improve to 12-6 on the season, and will advance to the CAC semifinals at Stevenson on Tuesday.

Kennedy scored four goals and added two assists, giving her 103 points on the year (69 goals, 34 assists). She now has 227 career goals, four more than Pam Heller, who previously held the record. She was joined for the team lead in goals by classmate Lauren Callison, who added four scores. Keller Torrey led UMW with seven points on two goals and five assists. Jenna Petrucelli added three goals and an assist for the Eagles.

After Frostburg scored the game's first goal, UMW scored five straight, en route to a 13-4 halftime advantage. UMW outscored the guests, 6-3, in the second.

UMW led in shots, 41-17, and had 23 ground balls to 14 for the Bobcats. The Eagles also forced 26 turnovers in the game. Danielle Guigli and Kathryn Stiltz each had four saves for Mary Washington.
