
The Mary Washington women's basketball team is heading to the Coast-to-Coast championship game on Saturday night with its 51-37 win over Santa Cruz in the C2C semifinal game on Friday night in Newport News, Va.
It wasn't much of a contest for the Eagles, who led the entire way after taking the lead with 3:23 left in the first quarter. After the first half, the Eagles led 28-15 and never looked back, outscoring the Banana Slugs by one in the second half, 23-22.
For the game, the Eagles shot 20-of-50 (40%), while holding Santa Cruz to just a 12-of-55 line (21.8%). More impressively, Mary Washington held Santa Cruz to a 2-for-21 line from deep (9.5%) and forced the Banana Slugs into 19 turnovers.
The Eagles' Jordan Carpenter scored a game-high 18 points in the victory and recorded a double-double with 10 rebounds, while Keagan Schwab added 12 points.
Mary Washington is back in action against Christopher Newport on Saturday night in the Coast-to-Coast championship game in Newport News, Va. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.
