The Mary Washington women's basketball team was victorious on Senior Day in Fredericksburg, Va. over New Jersey City College on Sunday afternoon, 71-57.
The Eagles honored seniors Sydney Sherman, Keagan Schwab, Jordan Carpenter and Ashley Martin prior to Sunday's action. The four seniors started for the Eagles -- as they have all season -- and combined for 54 of the team's points.
Carpenter led the way for UMW with 19 points on 9-of-13 shooting, while Schwab added 15 and a 3-pointer. Sherman scored 12 points on five baskets and Martin scored eight and grabbed nine boards. Carpenter recorded her 16th double-double of the season in the Eagles' effort as she recorded 14 rebounds.
As a team, the Eagles put the Knights away early as they outscored New Jersey City by 10 at the end of the first quarter, 18-8. Mary Washington knocked down 28 of its 68 shots (41.2%), 18 of which were assisted on.
On defense, UMW held the Knights to a 22-of-67 line (32.8%) and a 1-of-16 mark from deep (6.3%). The Eagles also outrebounded the Knights by two, 47-45.
The Eagles are back in action for their final home game of the season on Thursday night against Hood College. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m.
