Mary Washington Women's Basketball Falls to No. 5 CNU

Despite leading for the majority of Wednesday night's contest, Mary Washington women's basketball team (13-8) fell to No. 5 Christopher Newport in the last few minutes in Fredericksburg, Va., 60-55.

The Eagles took a 47-43 lead heading into the final quarter -- which moved up to a 55-48 advantage -- but were outscored by the Captains in the fourth, 17-8.

Mary Washington shot the basketball all game long as it went 23-of-55 from the floor (41.8%) and 5-of-11 (45.5%) from deep. The Eagles held CNU to just a 22-of-60 mark from the floor (36.7%) and a 4-of-18 mark from deep (22.2%). UMW, however, was out-rebounded, 39-32, and turned the basketball over 17 times, compared to CNU's 12 times.

Sydney Sherman (11 points) and Keagan Schwab (10) both reached double figures for the Eagles, while Jordan Carpenter added six assists and Ashley Martin had five. The Eagles tallied 17 assists on their 23 baskets.

Mary Washington is back in action on Sunday afternoon for Senior Day against New Jersey City. Tip-off is set for 1 p.m.
