Mary Washington Women's Basketball Falls to No. 4 Christopher Newport

The Mary Washington women's basketball team (12-7) played No. 4 Christopher Newport all night long but couldn't pull in front of the Captains as the Eagles fell, 74-56, on Wednesday evening in Newport News, Va.

UMW trailed by 11 at the end of the first quarter, 24-13, before coming to within a point of CNU at the end of the third quarter, 53-52, before the Captains outscored the Eagles by 17 in the final period.

The Eagles had three players score in double-digits on Wednesday as Megan Baxter and Ashley Martin contributed with 12 as Jordan Carpenter came away with 11. Baxter hit all three of the Eagles' 3-pointer's as well.

On the day, the Eagles shot 35.7% (20-of-56) and tied the Captains in the rebounds with 34 -- and came away with four more offensive boards, 12-8.

Mary Washington is back in action on Saturday with a matchup at Salisbury, tip-off is set for 1:00 p.m. The Eagles took down Salisbury on Jan. 24, 71-47, in this season's previous meeting in Fredericksburg.
