Jordan Carpenter Scores 1,000th Career Point as UMW Women's Basketball Cruises Past Gallaudet, 67-53

Jordan Carpenter stood 30 points away from becoming the 21st player in Mary Washington women's basktball's program history to score 1,000 career points. With her career-high 31 points on Saturday, she reached the mark -- and went over it by an extra point with her late score to clinch the mark in dramatic fashion by scoring with a second left.

The Eagles (11-6) jumped in celebration as soon as the buzzer hit zero and fans in the stands pulled out "1,000" signs to celebrate Carpenter's achivement -- and their victory over the Bison, of course. UMW walked away with a 67-53 comeback win over Gallaudet on Saturday evening.

Mary Washington trailed by three heading into the half but ended up outscoring the Bison by 17 in the second half to pull away with an uncontested victory. Along with Carpenter's career-high of 31, Keagan Schawb added 15 points -- all in the second quarter to keep UMW afloat -- and Sydney Sherman scored 14 on 7-of-15 shooting.

On the day, the Eagles shot 31-of-75 (41.3%) as nearly half of their buckets came on assists (14). Defensivley, UMW forced the Bison into 27 turnovers -- committing just 14 of its own -- and a 40.8% mark from the floor as well as a 1-for-10 mark from deep.

Of Carpenter's 31, 23 of her points came in the second half -- which included a 21-point fourth quarter performance to clinch the 1,000 point mark.

The Eagles are back in action on Wednesday at Christopher Newport in Newport News, Va. Tip-off is set for 6:00 p.m.
